2011 After doing research  for over six years on this fascinating woman — missionary, brilliant doctor, crusader against trafficking, writer– I finally have the first draft written about this nineteenth century woman, Dr. Katharine Bushnell.  Watch for developments as Doctor Kate goes to press.

October 1, 2012 I’m sending a two- book proposal to a publisher today.  Tentative titles:  Boundless and Immeasurable.  The process could take months, but I’m praying it will attract the attention of the publisher and marketing people.  The first of the two historical novels is virtually written, and I have a very accomplished editor to shape it up.

August 26,2016 A two book series about Dr. Katharine Bushnell is in the publishing process.Boundless, book one will be published December 1, 2016 by Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas.  The Queen’s Daughters, is scheduled  for publication on September 1, 2017.

October 17,2016  Katharine  Bushnell’s story of courage and persistence to expose white slavery in America’s Midwest is nearing publication on Dec. 1, 2016.  The title has been changed to Daughters of Deliverance— which focuses on the women and girls “Kate” struggled so hard to see released.  She often reminded herself of Jesus’ mission which He read from the prophet Isaiah:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…to bring good tidings to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to bring deliverance to the captives.

November 4, 2016  Amazon has put Daughters of Deliverance into its book sales, but not available until December 1, 2016.

The Queen’s Daughters  was released on September 1, 2017 as an ebook on Amazon as well as a paperback.  The face on the striking cover is of an Indian young woman. her pensive face and thoughtful expression could be one of the “queen’s daughters,”- The girls living in the British cantonments for the pleasure of the soldiers, considered themselves daughters of Queen Victoria.  They told Kate and Bess, “She would never want us to be treated like this.

The women bravely visit the chaklas (brothels) and write detailed reports of their findings for the Parliament back in London. And whenever she’s travelling or has time on her hands, Kate continues to study her Bible — to find proof that God didn’t intend for His daughters to be treated like this either.

  1. I am very interested in this book. Katherine Bushnell was the sister of my great-great grandmother, Sarah Bushnell McCaleb. I do have a picture of Sarah and Kate, as well as a post card sent by Kate from China. I believe Kate and Sarah lived together in the San Fran/Oakland area around 1920.
I also have the idea that Kate was a personal physician to the Dowager Empress in China, but I do not know if that is family lore or fact.

    • I’m excited to hear from a living –though very distant– relative of Kate. I’ve been researching and writing over a period of six years. Book one, Boundless is in line editing, and it’s in the hands of an agent. I’m part way through book two, possibly called Unbound. My email is lorlutz@usa.net, if you’d like to keep in touch as to the progress, or have other input. I did not find any information that she was personal physical to the Empress, but she had three years of challenging medical work in China. Of course, I’m writing this as a fictionalized biography, so I have all the fun of filling in all the gaps. Thanks for contacting my blog. Hopefully as I have a little more time, I’ll be more faithful in keeping it up. Lorry Lutz

    • Hi Gayle, I know this is a very late response to your comment on my blog. But my book about Katharine Bushnell, Daughters of Deliverance has just been released. It is available on Amazon books. Be sure to find my name as author — I see there are several other books listed by that name. I would appreciate it if you would write a review on the Amazon site. The number of reviews a book receives determines if Amazon will promote the title. I hope you enjoy getting to know Katharine. She was a powerful woman, persistent in her desire to free women to be all that God intended them to be. Blessings, Lorry Lutz
